CML Carpet Masters CML Carpet Masters 2002 / 2003

Moving into its third year, the CML Carpet Masters once again switches between Stafford and Macclesfield Model Car Clubs. In an effort to further improve racing, some new rules are to be implemented to both the Stock and Modified classes. The Stock class will retain the PITshimizu D20 Slick control tyre but will also use a control motor - Reedy Spec 19 turn. This ballraced re-buildable stock has been tested at venues over the summer and proved to be perfectly suited to close, enjoyable stock racing, and what's more it is available from £29.99 RRP.

Modified is again open 12 turn motors, but will run to control Jaco foam tyres. These new control foam tyres are the same as Jaco green and blue compounds, and have a distinguishing grey coloured foam ring for easy technical identification. With just two compounds to test and use, you can travel light this winter.

CML speak about the Reedy 19 Turn Class

Dear Racer,

There has been some discussion since we introduced the new reedy 19-turn spec class about certain aspects of motor tuning. After the first round, feedback to ourselves revealed a number of racers a little disheartened and alarmed at the immediate use of tuning and testing on these spec motors. Whilst we appreciate that racers want to win and gain an advantage wherever possible, it was CML’s intention to have the Reedy 19-turn Spec class as level a playing field as possible, emphasising driving skill and close racing, along with financial budget.

Two areas of tuning have become apparent – brushes and zappers. Certain racers have been tuning their brushes to increase the motors timing. Due to added scrutineering, it has been decided to leave this alone and let it pass. It is a modification that any racer can do, and now that it is general knowledge an advantage that is there for everyone.

Magnet zapping is a different subject. We want every racer in this class to feel that they have a more than fair chance of competing and racing with relative equal equipment and opportunities. Due to the high costs involved, there are only a handful of magnet zappers in the country and only a select few have access to them. When motors are zapped after each run, it is inevitable that those with access will have the upper hand over those without. With this in mind we decided for the good of the class that we ban the use of Zappers on the Reedy 19-turn spec class motors.

This decision is not based on any personal feelings or anything detrimental towards magnet zappers. It is just a decision with the success of the spec class in mind and the enjoyment and fulfilment of those participating in it.

Best regards
Jason Varley
